Change Management Using AssetWise Engineering Designer

When objects are subject to change control, you are restricted in changing any descriptive data or associated data after the object has been approved. Changes can only be made to these objects by initiating the AssetWise change process. It is not possible to edit the change controlled tag directly, except for its Installed Equipment, Fitted Serial, Date Effective, and Date Obsolete properties.

Note that you can also manage changes in ALIM Web by using change packages.

A change process is initiated through a change package. When a change request is established, you can identify documents, tags, physical items, and/or virtual item groups to which the change is proposed.

The change process for a change request object, for example, a tag, usually consists of the following steps (each step can be performed by a different responsible person):

  1. From the object's Object menu, select Add Change Package.
  2. To create a prototype of the affected object, for example, a tag, expand the Affected Documents, Affected Physical Items, Affected Tags, or Affected Virtual Item Groups topic, select the change request package from the list, and then from its Object menu, select Create Prototype.
  3. Complete the prototype information with the changed data.
  4. Approve or expedite the change package.
  5. From the change request package's Object menu, select Implement Change Request.
  6. From the Object menu, select Approve.
The new revision of the tag is approved and the previous revision is set as Historic.

You can navigate to the change request to which this prototype belongs, by selecting Open Change Request from the Object menu.

You can navigate to the tag that this from which this prototype originated, by selecting Open Source from the Object menu.
